Dialysis patients\u003cbr/\u003eEnglish/Nat\u003cbr/\u003eDoctors in Bangladesh are increasingly concerned that a trade in human organs is  starting in their country.\u003cbr/\u003eBangladesh is one of the world's poorest countries - and there are fears that poor  people are trying to escape from poverty by selling their own healthy organs to wealthy  foreigners.\u003cbr/\u003eIt's only recently that transplant operations have even been possible in Bangladesh --  and so there's no law specifically banning the sale of organs like kidneys.\u003cbr/\u003eThe gruesome trade in human organs is new to Bangladesh. \u003cbr/\u003eThis man says he sold his kidney for a thousand dollars.\u003cbr/\u003eNow he says he's scared the doctors who arranged the operation will kill him if he talks  about it.\u003cbr/\u003eSOUNDBITE: (Bengali)\u003cbr/\u003e\"I learnt about kidney donation from a newspaper advertisement. On the eve of the  operation I was told my kidney was going to a foreigner. The doctors said the foreigner  would take me abroad and pay for my medical expenses. So I agreed. But after the  operation I found they behaved differently. The doctors became inattentive and rude.\"\u003cbr/\u003eSUPER CAPTION: Man who sold his kidney\u003cbr/\u003eThis is the largest circulation Bengali daily.\u003cbr/\u003eAmong the cars and houses being sold is an advertisement from a British citizen  undergoing treatment in London. It says KIDNEY WANTED! - in exchange for a  handsome sum of money.\u003cbr/\u003eThis is one of the few hospitals in Bangladesh which do transplant operations.\u003cbr/\u003eDoctors like these are extremely concerned that there's no law specifically banning the  sale of organs.\u003cbr/\u003eThey've introduced a self-regulatory code which says that only close blood relatives can  donate organs.\u003cbr/\u003eBut it's not being followed by everyone.\u003cbr/\u003eSOUNDBITE: (English)\u003cbr/\u003e\"Unfortunately, some surgeons from India came here and they did some buying and  selling of kidneys and we are really annoyed about it.
