So Alan was very excited about the idea and we found a little space where I bought some equipment, this basic stuff, some lights and we worked together and started to experiment, in a very very homecooking kind of fashion and it was thrilling . I enjoyed it, as much as the early days of recording  with Dave, you know when we used to have very elementary recording equipment. It's very dry in here, I'm losing my...I have to get some water. Yes, I've always been interested in visual image and at the moment I love still image, that's the thing that really speaks to me.\"\u003cbr/\u003e7. SOUNDBITE (English) Vanessa Carlton:\u003cbr/\u003e\"I remember um when I first started writing songs I was about sixteen or seventeen and her song that was on the radio at the time - I started listening to alot of radio -  was 'No More I Love Yous' and I studied the structure of that song for a while and it was really simple but it was really poignant. I think it definitely influenced my kind of fetal stages of songwriting someway. I just finished writing my second record. I go to San Francisco in two weeks to start recording and I am so excited. I feel so confident abot the arrangements and kind of the plan for what's going to happen in the studio and I'm very excited just to execute it. It is very eclectic music, the songs are quite dynamic, as I always am on the piano but in terms of teh pallette of sounds, it's going to be a bit different in terms of kind of bringing in horns, bringing in strings but maybe not having a whole orchestra and when you hear the strings, you hear them squeak, you know, it's very organic soundind, flutes and I would like to do a duet with Neil Young - we'll see how it all goes, it'll just be very exciting.\"\u003cbr/\u003e12. B-roll guests looking at the exhibit \u003cbr/\u003eMusical icon ANNIE LENNOX was in New York Tuesday night to unveil an art exhibition of self portraits at the Spike Gallery in Chelsea. The exhibition also coincided with the release of Lennox's third album 'Bare'.\u003cbr/\u003e'Bare' has been described by many critics as an \"emotional rollercoaster ride\". The singer wrote and recorded the material in the aftermath of her 12 year marriage to Isreali filmmaker Uri Fruchtman. They announced their breakup in 2000. \u003cbr/\u003eThe entire album was written by Lennox and she worked with her long-time producer Steve Lipson. In many of her songs she talks about troubled relationships and the doom she senses from them. The album's cover was created by Lennox herself working with graphic artist Allan Martin who also shot the photos in the exhibition. \u003cbr/\u003e'Bare' follows her 2 previous solo albums 'Diva' and 'Medusa' which between them have exceeeded sales of 12 million worldwide. \u003cbr/\u003eSinger/songwriter Vanessa Carlton also popped in to see the exhibition and spoke about her first introduction to Lennox's music. She also talked about her new album - the follow up to her debut 'Be Not Nobody'. \u003cbr/\u003eVanessa Carlton has been playing the piano since the age the age of two. Taught by her mother, she was exposed to a wide variety of classical music and wrote her first original composition at eight. \u003cbr/\u003eNot content with her talent for the piano, at nine, Vanessa became obsessed with ballet moving to New York to study at the School of American Ballet at fourteen and setting her sights on a career as a professional dancer.\u003cbr/\u003eAt 17, frustrated with dancing, Carlton ditched ballet school for a rundown apartment in New York's notorious Hell's Kitchen and began writing songs again, this time with lyrics. \u003cbr/\u003eShe had always loved to sing, and once she put her voice and piano together, something clicked. She began waitressing and started performing at open-mic nights around the city until she was spotted by record company scouts and was signed to Interscope, A\u0026amp;M
