It started in West Hollywood, and now Pound fitness classes are rocking up a storm in California. \u003cbr/\u003eThe Pound fitness technique involves banging drum sticks and jumping about to rock music. \u003cbr/\u003ePound channels your inner rock star with a driving beat that works up a sweat leaving students are aching to return.\u003cbr/\u003eThe plastic drumsticks are weighted and transforms drumming into a high intensity fat burning, full body interval workout.\u003cbr/\u003eThe movements do not stop from the moment the class begins. With music so loud, the instructor can't even be heard at all over the microphone. The beat is infectious as attendees go into a focused trance while pounding away. \u003cbr/\u003eThe energy in the room becomes one intense synchronised rhythm movement. Students say they like the release of aggression. \u003cbr/\u003eMany of them feel very empowered with the drumsticks and can't stop raving about the level of workout.\u003cbr/\u003eKatie Walter, actress, 30 from West Hollywood, a Pound devotee says, \"It's so fun the way they have created it. They're always coming out with new tracks.\"\u003cbr/\u003eCo-founders Cristina Peerenboom and Kirsten Potenza are personal trainers from West Hollywood when they created the registered fitness craze. \u003cbr/\u003eThey came up with the idea while attending a party in the Hollywood Hills where a former Guns N' Roses drummer played. \u003cbr/\u003eBoth girls were drummers in high school and soon realised they were getting more of a workout than they imagined having to squeeze their core muscles.\u003cbr/\u003eIt took the girls three months on a rooftop deck planning moves for the class focusing on heavy squats and lunges.\u003cbr/\u003eThe weighted drumsticks hit the ground over and over to fast paced hard rock and hip hop songs.\u003cbr/\u003eThe two creators say it's like Pilates on your feet with pounding music.\u003cbr/\u003e\"Pound is a 45 minute group fitness class. Kennedy, M.D. cardiologist says \"Pound is amazing. It's one of these new hybrid exercise routines that combines drumming, percussion, music and a great aerobic workout.
