A Positive View 2 opens Thursday  at The Chimney, The Old Truman Brewery, in London's East End and runs for two weeks. \u003cbr/\u003eThe exhibition will be followed by a Gala Charity Auction at Christie's on the evening of Thursday 4 May 2000.  All proceeds from the exhibition and auction will benefit Fairbridge, a leading UK charity which supports marginalised young people in inner city areas.  \u003cbr/\u003eThe whole event is sponsored by Getty Images, the leading e-commerce provider of visual content, and supported by Christie's art auctioneers.\u003cbr/\u003eA Positive View 2 offers an overview of more than 100 years of photography, the wide range of subject matter including portraits of well-known figures from the fashion, music, theatre, film, literary and sporting worlds; war; still life; animals; reportage; landscape and architecture.  \u003cbr/\u003eThere are some 130 images by 123 photographers from 16 countries on five continents, dating from 1895 to 1999 and ranging in value from around �500 up to �10,000.  All the works have been donated either by the photographers themselves, collectors or institutions around the world.\u003cbr/\u003eOne of the most valuable photographs is NORMAN PARKINSON's 'Solarised Beatles at Abbey Road', taken in September 1963 when the group was making its second album With the Beatles.  This is the original vintage silver gelatin bromide print, an uncharacteristic image as it was 'solarised' by mistake during processing and featured as the centre spread in Parkinson's The Beatles Book published in 1964.  \u003cbr/\u003eAnother highly-prized exhibit is 'Slap Jap, Diary Spread, 1986' by the American artist and photographer PETER BEARD.  He has travelled extensively, especially in Africa, and kept a daily diary for many years. \u003cbr/\u003eMarilyn Monroe, Greta Garbo, Elizabeth Taylor and Audrey Hepburn all feature in photos.  BERT STERN's 'Marilyn with Roses II' of 1962, her last sitting, depicts a nude Marilyn holding two cabbage roses to cover her breasts; Greta Garbo is represented by CLARENCE SINCLAIR BULL's 1931 portrait; HERB RITTS' uncompromising profile portrait of Elizabeth Taylor taken in Bel Air in 1997 is complemented by Bert Stern's print of Taylor and Richard Burton in Ischia in 1962 at the start of their stormy love affair when they were filming Cleopatra; and CECIL BEATON's 1954 study of a shy Audrey Hepburn perfectly captures her gamine charm.\u003cbr/\u003eTwo male film stars from different eras are Montgomery Clift photographed by Norman Parkinson in 1951 and Johnny Depp taken by DAVID BAILEY in 1995.  \u003cbr/\u003eThe world of popular music is represented.  RICHARD YOUNG's 'Debbie Harry, Covent Garden, 1981' captures the Blondie star getting out of a car, while GERED MANKOWITZ's 1967 study of Jimi Hendrix shows the ebullient singer in an unusually sombre light.  MICK ROCK's haunting 'Lou Reed' was used on the record cover of Reed's 1972 LP Transformer. \u003cbr/\u003eThe fashion world is represented by both designers and models.  Gianni Versace taken by IRVING PENN in New York in 1990 is one of only eight signed silver gelatin prints of this portrait.  WILLY MAYWALD's 'Christian Dior', 1950 reveals a glimpse of post-war glamour.  There are two studies of Kate Moss: RANKIN's 1999 picture shows the model nude from the waist up apart from a neck scarf, while the Italian fashion photographer MARIO TESTINO's portrait dates from 1996.\u003cbr/\u003eFamous faces include George Bernard Shaw taken in 1943 by the Canadian photographer YOUSUF KARSH and 'Ernesto 'Che' Guevara', looking relaxed with a cigar in his mouth, taken in 1963 by the Swiss photographer RENE BURRI. \u003cbr/\u003eArtists feature too: Salvador Dali holding a mannequin from the 1938 Paris Surrealist exhibition by the French photographer DENISE BELLON captures the artist's desire to be centre stage while ANDR� OSTIER's 1941 study of Henri Matisse shows the artist relaxing in an armchair in Nice in 1941.  The German photographer WOLFGANG VOLZ has two prints relating to Christo and his wife Jeanne-Claude including an aerial view of 'Wrapped Reichstag, Berlin 1971-95'. \u003cbr/\u003eThe horrors of war and famine are represented by picturees from BILL BRANDT's 'The Bombed City', 1944, and LEE MILLER's 'Dead SS Guard floating in canal beside camp, Dachau', 1945, to BERT HARDY's 'Korea: The Incon Landing', 1950, and the Kenyan photographer MOHAMED AMIN's 'Famine, Korem, Ethiopia, 1984.\u003cbr/\u003eReportage on a lighter note includes many captivating scenes, notably the Japanese photographer YOSHI TAKATA's 'Religieuses au Luxembourg, Paris', 1958, showing a group of nuns clustered around a baby's pram and HENRI CARTIER-BRESSON's 'Baseball at Milwaukee County Stadium', 1957.\u003cbr/\u003eNo photographic exhibition would be complete without nudes. Two examples in the exhibition are 'Nude with one thing on', 1996, reminiscent of an odalisque by Ingres, by SHEILA METZNER, champion of the delicate pastels of the Fresson process, and 'Charlene \u0026amp; Maya' (Child \u0026amp; Mother), 1990, by BARRY LATEGAN.  \u003cbr/\u003eThe oldest work in the exhibition, dating from around 1895, is a tiny photogravure  'Marsh Weeds' by PETER HENRY EMERSON, doyen of late Victorian naturalists, donated by Paula and Robert Hershkowitz.  Other nature studies include SNOWDON's 'Sweet Chestnut', 1977, 'Orchid Sculpture' by HORST P.
