Mid shot sphinx face\u003cbr/\u003eEnglish/Nat        \u003cbr/\u003eArchaeologists have found tombs next to Egypt's pyramids which they believe prove the legendary structures were built by Egyptian workers, and not foreign slaves as had traditionally been thought.\u003cbr/\u003eThe burial grounds found close to the Giza pyramids contain tools and other artifacts consistent with the burial of ordinary Egyptian citizens.\u003cbr/\u003eScholars believe the artifacts will reveal much about the lives of the ancient workmen who moved the massive pyramid structures into place. \u003cbr/\u003eHere in the desert just southeast of the Sphinx, archaeologists have made a discovery which may well prove who built Egypt's ancient pyramids.\u003cbr/\u003eThe tombs appear to have been built using material left over from the construction of the pyramids-- mudbrick with chunks of limestone, basalt and granite for support.\u003cbr/\u003eThey contain skeletons and artefacts, which researchers believe are consistent with the burial of Egyptian workers.\u003cbr/\u003eMany of the skeletons shows signs of heavy labour.\u003cbr/\u003eBut they also show signs of having received medical treatment - a luxury not usually afforded to mere slaves.\u003cbr/\u003eThis evidence appears to discount the popular theory that the pyramids were built by brutalised foreign slaves. \u003cbr/\u003eDr. Zahi Hawass, director of the Giza plateau, believes that the contents of the tombs prove that the interred were indeed valued members of Egyptian society.\u003cbr/\u003eSOUNDBITE: (English)\u003cbr/\u003e\"This discovery is very important because it proves that the builders of the pyramids were Egyptians and also it proves that the builders of the pyramids were not slaves, because they were buried near the pyramids and they prepared their tombs for eternity like kings and queens. (Cutaway: artifacts) We found these beautiful flint tools, some of which were used as knives for daily life, and also at the same time they were used to cut things, because they used to eat garlic and onion and things like that.
