It's not only about the laws, it's what's behind the laws. And I think this is what signifies the Supreme Court from the rest of the institutions in Israeli society - even the Knesset - that it is trying to be more sincere, more dedicated to the issue of democratic values than parliament itself. I think this is very important, especially during hard  times - and these are hard times. Democracy is going through very hard times, democratic values are going through very hard times. preventing a further deterioration in Jewish-Arab relations.\u003cbr/\u003eMany of Israel's one point two (M) million Arab citizens considered the case a watershed in their already deeply troubled relations with the Jewish majority.\u003cbr/\u003eThursday's court ruling was rendered by 11 justices, a composition usually reserved for landmark cases. \u003cbr/\u003eThe court overturned a decision two weeks ago by the Central Election Commission to disqualify Arab legislators Azmi Bishara and Ahmed Tibi on grounds they sided with Israel's enemies.\u003cbr/\u003eThe high court ruled unanimously on Tibi and 7-4 on Bishara, issuing the decision in writing. \u003cbr/\u003eThe judges' arguments were not immediately released. \u003cbr/\u003eBishara and Tibi welcomed the court ruling as a victory for Israel's democracy.\u003cbr/\u003e\"Justice has been served,\" Bishara said in response. \u003cbr/\u003e\"I think the Supreme Court ... is trying to be more sincere and committed to democratic they expressed support for Israel's enemies.\u003cbr/\u003eBishara was accused of inciting to violence against Israel, while Tibi allegedly sided with Yasser Arafat and his Palestinian Authority against the Jewish state. \u003cbr/\u003eBoth legislators denied the charges, saying they opposed violence and were simply criticising Israeli government\u003cbr/\u003epolicy.\u003cbr/\u003eIn other decisions, the high court on Thursday also ruled to uphold the candidacy of Jewish extremist Baruch Marzel. \u003cbr/\u003eThe Central Election Commission had allowed Marzel's candidacy, but the decision was appealed by an Israeli grassroots group.\u003cbr/\u003eThe court also disqualified the candidacy of Defence Minister Shaul Mofaz on technical grounds, saying he had not been out of the
