There will be an underwater museum for our submerged monuments. In the eastern harbour we have 7 thousand remains and in the Abou Keir area we have 60,000 submerged monuments. This project is one of the most important cultural undertakings,\" says Adel Labib, Governor of Alexandria.\u003cbr/\u003eHundreds of the items that could be moved from the sea bed have already been brought to the surface. They are now on display all over the city, but among the most spectacular are those at the National Museum. \u003cbr/\u003eOthers are at the Roman amphitheatre. \u003cbr/\u003e\"It''s been very important for the people of Alexandria, everybody knows about the Pharaonic remains in Egypt, but even the people of this city were unaware of the treasures of Alexandria,\" says Dr. Yousrya Abdel-Aziz Hosni, a professor of Greco-Roman studies.\u003cbr/\u003eThe size and importance of these archaeological discoveries demands huge human resources. \u003cbr/\u003eAlso demanding the attention of the Ministry of Culture and the Supreme Council of Antiquities is the ancient pyramid at Saqqara. \u003cbr/\u003eDr Zahi Hawass, Head of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, says Saqqara''s age means it is deteriorating and in need of restoration. \u003cbr/\u003e\"The step pyramid is the oldest pyramid in Egypt. The substructure of this pyramid if you took the corridors and the tunnels and put them in the computer there about 7km''s long of tunnels and corridors. And the superstructure was in a very bad condition. Stones began to collapse and the substructure began to collapse. We started maybe in my opinion the most important restoration and conservation (of) the step pyramid.\" \u003cbr/\u003eAt first glance it could almost be a scene from when the Saqqara pyramid was first uncovered - but these Egyptians are carrying out vital repairs.\u003cbr/\u003e\"But the most important thing at Zaqqara is that we are preserving our monuments. I found out for the last 15 years there is many problems facing this monument. Maybe because of earthquakes, because of movement, we began to see major problems with the Sarapeum. The Sarapeum is underground tunnels used for the burial of the Apis bull, and we found cracks on the ceiling.
