Wide shot of Cheops' pyramid, zoom in on camels\u003cbr/\u003eEnglish/Nat\u003cbr/\u003eEgypt's major tourist attraction - the largest of the three Great Pyramids at Giza - will be closed for eight months from April for restoration work.\u003cbr/\u003eUntil the inside of the Cheops pyramid is fully renovated, tourists will only be able to see the ancient monument from the outside.\u003cbr/\u003eWhen cracks started to appear inside the Cheops pyramid, officials decided it was in need of restoration.\u003cbr/\u003eThe extensive restoration programme will include work on the interior of the 137-metre (449 foot) pyramid. \u003cbr/\u003eThe smallest pyramid, Mycerinus, was reopened earlier this month after a year-long restoration programme.\u003cbr/\u003eThe director of the Giza Plateau explained why the Cheops pyramid was now going to be closed.\u003cbr/\u003eSOUNDBITE: (English)\u003cbr/\u003e\"The reason for closing the pyramid is because we are going to clean\u003cbr/\u003ethe salt that comes from the breathing, because each visitor who enters the pyramid makes about 20 grammes of water inside the pyramid, and this makes salt inside. We will repair the cracks inside the pyramid and also we'll clean the graffiti, and we'll make a new system of lighting inside the pyramid.
