Wide of shopping centre \u003cbr/\u003eBosnia-Herzegovina is on the verge of a serious food crisis due to a shortage of basic food products caused by the heat and drought earlier this summer, which destroyed more than 40 percent of the country's crops, experts have said. \u003cbr/\u003eExperts warned the country's stocks of grain may hardly be enough to cover demand over the next two weeks - while others predict some parts of the country could run out of bread even sooner.\u003cbr/\u003eThe grain shortage, which led to a significant increase in the price of wheat on the world market has resulted in a dramatic increase in the price of basic food products, such as flour, sugar and oil in Bosnia-Herzegovina.   \u003cbr/\u003eExperts said that the price of bread and cooking oil has already increased by nearly 100 percent in some parts of the country. \u003cbr/\u003ePanic buying caused by the shortage has pushed the price of basic food products even higher in the capital Sarajevo - where some shops have had to limit oil sales to a maximum of 15 litres per household. \u003cbr/\u003eExperts warned that the food crisis could lead to serious social unrest in the country - especially since the latest price hike comes just ahead of a scheduled price increases on all food items set to take effect in September of this year - starting with a minimum 30 percent increase in prices of meat, milk, fruits and vegetables. \u003cbr/\u003eTherefore, any further increase could be pushing average families, already struggling to meet their basic needs, beyond their limit. \u003cbr/\u003eThe Njemcevic family are feeling the effect of soaring prices first hand. \u003cbr/\u003eDino, a social worker and his wife Nisveta, a college professor, make about 800 euros (1089 US dollars) a month, but  their income is no longer enough to cover the basic food needs of their four person family.\u003cbr/\u003e\"It is obvious that the living standard in Bosnia is changing dramatically,\" Dino told AP television.  \u003cbr/\u003e\"Things we could (afford to) buy last month, we can't (afford to) buy this month. We've slashed the amount of money we can afford to spend on basic needs, almost by half,\" he said. \u003cbr/\u003eDin's wife Nisveta said she often spends more on groceries than she earns in a month. \u003cbr/\u003eBosnia-Herzegovina's Chamber of Commerce has called on the country's central government to start negotiating terms for the import of wheat and corn with neighbouring Serbia and Croatia as soon as possible.\u003cbr/\u003eMuhamed Pilav, a representative for the country's milling industry, advised that Bosnia-Herzegovina should ask to purchase 50 thousand tonnes of wheat and 25 thousand tonnes of corn each from both Serbia and Croatia. \u003cbr/\u003eHowever this solution may prove problematic since Serbia, due to wheat shortages of its own, has already introduced an embargo on the export of wheat - while Croatia could make a similar move soon. \u003cbr/\u003eAlternatively, Pilav said that the government should make efforts to import an additional 150 thousand tonnes of grain from the United States or Argentina. \u003cbr/\u003e\"If we do not start importing wheat soon, the price of bread will soar even further. it is equally  important for the government to carefully consider \"all the causes of economic disturbances,\" in the country. \u003cbr/\u003e\"A plan for Bosnian economic growth must be created keeping in mind the country's specific circumstances,\" Stojanov said. \u003cbr/\u003eOver the past ten years the Bosnian government has been unable to provide subsidies to wheat farmers. \u003cbr/\u003eAs a result farmers were able to produce just enough crop to meet the population's demand, leaving the national reserves almost non
