(160 kilometre) winds swept over the islands. \u003cbr/\u003eHurricane Dean roared through the small Caribbean islands, killing three people as the powerful storm muscled its way across the eastern Caribbean on a collision course with Jamaica and Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula.\u003cbr/\u003eIn tiny St. Lucia, fierce winds tore corrugated metal roofs from dozens of homes and the paediatric ward of a hospital, whose patients had been evacuated hours earlier, and a 62-year-old man was swept away and drowned when he tried to retrieve a cow from a rain-swollen river.\u003cbr/\u003eIn Dominica, a woman and her 7-year-old son were killed when a rain-soaked hillside gave way and crushed the home where they were sleeping.\u003cbr/\u003ePeople in Martinique, St. Lucia and nearby Dominica mostly stayed indoors on Friday while Dean's remnants pounded the islands with heavy rain and authorities tried to assess damage.\u003cbr/\u003eDean, the first hurricane of the Atlantic season, was forecast to be a Category 4 storm with winds of more\u003cbr/\u003ethan 130 mph (208 kph) by Saturday evening, when it was likely to brush the southern coast of Haiti.\u003cbr/\u003eIt was expected to gather wind speeds of 150 mph (240 kph) by the time it reaches Jamaica on Sunday, before heading towards the Gulf Coast. \u003cbr/\u003eThe first hurricane of the Atlantic Season grew into a Category 3 storm on Friday afternoon after crossing into the warm waters of the Caribbean.\u003cbr/\u003eIt is forecast to develop into a monster storm with 150 mph (240 kph) winds before hitting the Yucatan and
