You've got folks like GungHo online. They're in Japan. They're doing some significant and serious gaming revenues. We're talking about billions of dollars a year,\" explains Marcos Sanchez, from AppAnnie. \u003cbr/\u003e\"In fact one company alone, in some of the top ten games, are actually pulling in over a billion dollars in revenues. So gaming, from the mobile app perspective, is a pretty serious thing and there's some pretty serious revenues associated with it. That's why data becomes very important.\"\u003cbr/\u003eAppAnnie will be at this year's E3 technology expo in Los Angeles.\u003cbr/\u003eThe company is expected to announce the results of research into the performance of mobile app movie tie-ins.\u003cbr/\u003e\"Everybody knows Rovio, right? They did a tie in with Star Wars. Angry Birds Star Wars is a huge, huge game. It was a really big hit. We've got things like Despicable Me, Iron Man, Fast and Furious. These things are coming not just from the picture studios, Universal, Disney. Often times they're actually created by app publishers. Folks like Kabam, folks like Game Loft, they're out there actually designing and helping to create these experiences,\" says Sanchez.\u003cbr/\u003eHe continues: \"We're going to be looking at the top 15, how they did over extended periods of time. What types of games have done really well? So, for instance, a lot of the city building games, like the Sims style games, doing really, really well. So there's a Hobbit game where you build a kind of Hobbit village. We've got the \"Simpsons: Tapped Out\" which is a classic one of course. So talking about a lot of those trends and those themes.\"\u003cbr/\u003eAnalyst Yoshio Osaki, Senior Vice President at the International Development Group (IDG), says the overall gaming market has never been bigger - or more global in scope. \u003cbr/\u003e\"The video games are not just about the console anymore. And you see a lot of cross pollination and hybridisation across.. You have Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo. You have EA, Activision, etcetera. But you also now have War Gaming and Riot Games, making League of Legends or mobile companies like King with Candy Crush or Kabam or Supercell with Clash of Clans,\" he explains.\u003cbr/\u003e\"A lot of these upstart companies are making a bunch of money and doing very well with their business models. And so what we're seeing at E3 now is not just a focus on one platform but on a multitude of different platforms and also an expansion into different business models.\"\u003cbr/\u003eOsaki also says there's lots of \"cross-pollination\" going on in the market.\u003cbr/\u003e\"Those that have started to expand their business models, you're seeing some really big successes. Whether it's EA where they're starting to turn the corner in some of their new digital initiatives. And on the flip side, companies like Tencent out of China. They're one of the biggest online gaming companies in the world. But they're also helping to consolidate the console market with their stake in Epic.
