Erdogan leaving \u003cbr/\u003eTurkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Friday he was disappointed by the failure of EU referendums in France and the Netherlands but insisted they were not caused by opposition to EU membership for his predominantly Muslim nation.\u003cbr/\u003eErdogan, speaking in an exclusive interview with The Associated Press, said Turkey was determined to press on with its membership drive and that he expected EU countries to back Turkey's bid when the country completed its reforms.\u003cbr/\u003eIn 10 to 15 years the EU \"will be a place where civilisations meet... may be more reticent in supporting reforms aimed at gaining EU membership.\u003cbr/\u003eErdogan will meet US President George Bush in Washington on Wednesday where he said he will press him to back Turkey in its efforts to end the isolation of Turkish northern Cyprus.\u003cbr/\u003eCyprus has been divided into a Turkish-occupied north and an internationally-recognised Greek Cypriot-led south since  1974. \u003cbr/\u003eThe self-declared Turkish Cypriot state in the north is only recognised by Turkey.\u003cbr/\u003eErdogan will also travel to New York for talks with UN Secretary General Kofi Annan where he will discuss the future of the divided island.\u003cbr/\u003eA proposed settlement backed by Annan was overwhelmingly endorsed by Turkish Cypriots in a referendum last year, but was rejected at the same time by Greek Cypriots. \u003cbr/\u003eTurkey now wants the international community to help ease the isolation of the north as a reward for backing the
