People looking at display\u003cbr/\u003eFailed asylum seekers in the Netherlands were on Thursday preparing to be expelled from the country a day after the Dutch parliament voted in favour of the measure.\u003cbr/\u003e26-thousand people who unsuccessfully sought political asylum are to be forced to leave, despite objections from left-leaning political parties and human rights groups.\u003cbr/\u003eMost of the deportees came to the Netherlands between 1999 and 2001.\u003cbr/\u003eThey were refused political asylum and have exhausted all their appeals.\u003cbr/\u003e35-year-old Illas Krasniqi fled Kosovo in the early 1990s and has lived in Holland for eleven years.\u003cbr/\u003eHe expressed disbelief the Dutch government could force him to leave after so long.\u003cbr/\u003eHis last hope is that he will be one of about two-thousand immigrants to be granted amnesty on the grounds that they came to the Netherlands more than five years ago, but it''''s a hope which is far from certain.\u003cbr/\u003eSince the adoption of new immigration laws in 2001, the Netherlands has imposed tight restrictions on the number of newcomers. \u003cbr/\u003eThe number of asylum applications fell from 43-thousand in 2,000 to 18,700 in 2002. More recent figures were unavailable.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Netherlands has since opened a number of \"deportation centres\" where entire families are detained before being forced onto flights back home. \u003cbr/\u003eDozens of charter flights a year have already returned thousands of people who were refused asylum.\u003cbr/\u003eHuman Rights Watch has called the latest measure part of a \"disturbing trend on the part of the Dutch authorities to depart from the international standards on its treatment of asylum seekers and migrants.\"\u003cbr/\u003eThe New York-based rights group warned that the
