Viking ship sailing away\u003cbr/\u003eA Viking longship is getting ready to sail again, nine hundred years after a similar voyage .\u003cbr/\u003eThe Sea Stallion of Glendalough is a replica of a longship that sailed from Dublin in Ireland to Roskilde, Denmark in 1042.  \u003cbr/\u003eLast weekend the ship was taken out onto the water in one of it's final testing sessions before it embarks on it's historic journey on July 1.\u003cbr/\u003eCopenhagen, the capital of Denmark, is a city built on water.  The harbour area of Nyhavn dates back to the 12th century, a time when the Vikings raided and explored most parts of Europe.\u003cbr/\u003eIt was the Vikings who placed Denmark firmly on the world map. They pillaged, traded and settled, establishing an image and reputation that has survived to this day.\u003cbr/\u003eIn July Danes will once more celebrate the Viking age when a replica longship sets sail from Denmark to Ireland.\u003cbr/\u003eCrew member Paul Nyhardt says he can't for the journey to begin. He says they are sailing the ship back along it's original route.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Sea Stallion of Glendalough is a replica of one of the Viking longships found at the bottom of Roskilde Fjord in 1962. \u003cbr/\u003ePainstakingly rebuilt over the course of four years, the 30 metre (98 foot)  long vessel is one of the largest Viking ships ever found and represents the pinnacle of shipbuilding during the Viking age. \u003cbr/\u003eThe quality of Viking ship building is something that is still appreciated today.  \u003cbr/\u003eSteersman Shone Nicholson says the Viking ship is a beautiful boat to sail.  \u003cbr/\u003eThe ship was built in the Vikings western-most metropolis of Dublin and sailed to Roskilde in 1042. \u003cbr/\u003eAt the beginning of July the ship will attempt to return to Dublin, a journey which will take six weeks.\u003cbr/\u003eThe ship will be manned by members of the Viking Ship museum staff and 120 volunteers from different countries who will take turns in joining the 70-man crew. \u003cbr/\u003eThe aim of the trip is to not only increase knowledge of the Vikings and their ships but also to re-establish historical ties between Ireland and Denmark.\u003cbr/\u003eThe ship was rebuilt using the same methods and equipment used by the Vikings, but it comes with some very modern-day extras such as a GPS system. This is something that not everyone is happy about.  \u003cbr/\u003eEric Red, a sailor from Canada, says that it is unfortunate to have so much electrical equipment on board. But, he accepts that is the price paid for modern safety.    \u003cbr/\u003eOne of the main challenges will be for a modern-day crew, used to modern-day comforts, to adapt to life on a very low-tech vessel.  \u003cbr/\u003eThey will work, sleep and eat together, and there is no place for any modesty.   \u003cbr/\u003eTina Nichol from Ireland says that although there is a washroom area, once the rowing starts the only place use the toilet is over the side of the vessel.\u003cbr/\u003eHistorians are eager to see how the ship fares on its maiden voyage. \u003cbr/\u003eThe narrow, flexible ship is designed for speed. The information they will get on the ship's speed and manoeuvrability on the open sea and in coastal waters will be invaluable to a greater understanding of the Viking age.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Sea
