Which is the appropriate operation for someone in her condition -- that is someone that is not ambulatory and that is not going to be walking in the future. You don't want to keep the knee present in a patient that is not going to be walking and is going to be bed-bound. It invariably will lead to wound issues and the leg will start bending, what we call a contracture if you perform a below-the-knee amputation in this setting. It doesn't happen so often. So we decided not to tell her. She doesn't know anything about it. She is in the recovery room and as the doctors told me, over the next couple days she won't even know she lost her leg. She won't feel it. You know. Eventually she will feel it, you know, and then she will ask me. And that moment, I don't even want to think about it. It's going to be a tough moment.\"  8. Wide von Anhalt talks to reporters\u003cbr/\u003eZsa Zsa Gabor's right leg was amputated Friday in Los Angeles in an operation that doctors said was necessary to save her life.\u003cbr/\u003eGabor, who turns 94 on Feb. 6, was being watched carefully, but there were no complications, doctors at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center said.\u003cbr/\u003e\"The surgery today went well, however, she is in frail health so we will continue to monitor her closely,\" said Dr. David Rigberg, associate professor of vascular surgery.\u003cbr/\u003eGabor, who had an infection in her leg for several months, was hospitalized on Jan. 2 after efforts to save her leg with antibiotics failed.\u003cbr/\u003eGabor broke her hip and had replacement surgery in July, and has been hospitalized several times since for swelling in her legs and blood clots throughout her body. Publicist John Blanchette said the wounds wouldn't heal, so doctors had no choice but to operate.\u003cbr/\u003eGabor's husband, Frederic Prinz von Anhalt, said he hadn't told his wife that her leg was being amputated. \u003cbr/\u003e\"My wife doesn't know she lost her leg.
