in Iraq and to remain there, despite rising opposition in both the United States and Britain and their own plunging approval ratings.\u003cbr/\u003eStanding side by side in the Rose Garden, Blair and Bush addressed reporters during what's likely to be Blair's last official visit to Washington as the leader of Britain.\u003cbr/\u003eThe two leaders said they had no regrets about the decision, contending Iraq has become the main battleground in the war against global terrorism.\u003cbr/\u003eSpeaking about the heated debate in Congress over an Iraq spending bill, Bush said he's optimistic a compromise will be reached, saying \"We'll work through something we can all live with.\" \u003cbr/\u003eCongress and the White House have been at loggerheads over war spending since earlier this month, when Bush vetoed legislation which included provisions for troop withdrawals to begin October 1.\u003cbr/\u003eFor his part, Blair predicted that Britain would continue to stand side by side who was confirmed Thursday as the next leader of the ruling Labour Party. \u003cbr/\u003eColleagues in the House of Commons overwhelmingly backed him as the only candidate to be the new prime
