Brett Gorvy, Chairman and International Head of Post War and Contemporary Art, Christie's New York calls it a \"major painting.\"He says, \"Eric Clapton, fantastic collector, obviously great musician, and this is a wonderful abstract painting again appealing to a very broad audience. It's coming in with an estimate of 18-22 million dollars.\"The Nov. 17 auctions at Sotheby's and Christie's  also will feature paintings by Jean-Michel Basquiat, Andy Warhol, Willem de Kooning and David Hockney.Sotheby's expects a large-scale landscape by Hockney titled \"Woldgate Woods, 24, 25 and 26 October, 2006\" to set a new auction record for the British artist. It believes the painting will bring between $9 million and $12 million.A large painting from one of Willem de Kooning's most productive periods is going on the auction block in the fall. Christie's is offering \"Untitled XXV\" in New York on Nov. 15, where it believes it could realize around $40 million.The auction house sold the same painting in 2006 for $27.1 million. At the time it set an auction record for any work of post-war and contemporary art.Christie's predicts that the exuberant work that bursts with color and textural brush work will set a new auction record for a work by the abstract expressionist. It was a period when he really felt that he was on an extraordinary roll. He'd had an extraordinary dry period before hand and ultimately here he was creating work which was incredibly dynamic. It was inspired, he  was living just near the Hamptons in the Spring, and he was inspired by the water by the landscape around him to paint these very large scale, incredibly vital and energetic paintings with fantastic color.
