Western Energy Alliance President Kathleen Sgamma said the industry is providing more natural gas to reduce electricity generated from coal. Sgamma said the treaty would have cost the United States $154 billion per year with little benefit to the environment. The group headed by Sgamma represents about 300 oil and gas producers across the Western United States. Meanwhile, the president of the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR), which oversees researchers who are part of the International Panel on Climate Change, said the president's announcement sends a message that science doesn't matter.
