Instead a proposed new law would follow the so-called Berlin model allowing restaurants to have areas...\u003c/span\u003e\n\u003cspan class='full-description hide'\u003eThe incoming Austrian government has announced it will scrap a planned law banning smoking in all bars and restaurants.\u003cbr/\u003e              Instead a proposed new law would follow the so-called Berlin model allowing restaurants to have areas for both smokers and non-smokers – if the areas are divided by a wall.\u003cbr/\u003e              That means that places like the popular Café Kafka can remain smoking establishments, but owner and namesake Franz Kafka isn't happy at all about the plans.\u003cbr/\u003e              Even though his café is a place for smokers Kafka prefers a total smoking ban as it would provide \"the same conditions for everybody\".\u003cbr/\u003e              Many doctors and health professionals have also voiced their concerns over the new law.\u003cbr/\u003e              The president of the Austrian medical association Thomas Szekeres says that Austria is \"dead last\" when it comes to smoking behaviour among adults and teenagers.\u003cbr/\u003e              Szekeres argues that total smoking bans in Italy and Ireland have already shown significant improvements in the overall health of the population. \u003cbr/\u003e              Even smokers like journalism student Andreas from Vienna wonder about the scrapping of the law.\u003cbr/\u003e              The scrapping of the smoking ban is widely seen as a win for Heinz-Christian Strache and his right-wing Freedom Party.\u003cbr/\u003e              His coalition partner the conservative Peoples Party of Sebastian Kurz had originally passed the law together with the Social Democrats in 2017.\u003cbr/\u003e            \u003cbr/\u003e\u003cbr/\u003e              Vienna - 13 December 2017\u003cbr/\u003e              1.
