More than 3,000 fans of...\u003c/span\u003e\n\u003cspan class='full-description hide'\u003eTRUE CRIME FANS GATHER IN NASHVILLE TO TALK MURDER, MYSTERY\u003cbr/\u003e              The growth of true crime as a genre of books, movies, TV and podcasting has gotten so big, it's even got its own convention. \u003cbr/\u003e              More than 3,000 fans of the genre are gathering this weekend in Nashville, Tennessee, to listen to investigators, police, researchers, podcasters and writers, as well as TV stars from shows like \"Dateline\" and \"Nancy Grace.\"\u003cbr/\u003e              Kevin Balfe, executive producer of CrimeCon, said he had long been a fan of the genre and had seen it grow exponentially in recent years. \u003cbr/\u003e              \"I have been a big fan of shows like 'Dateline' for a long time and I think like everyone else when 'Serial' brought the podcasting side of true crime out,\" Balfe said. \u003cbr/\u003e              \"And then a whole bunch of great true crime podcasters followed, 'Making a Murderer' was on its heels, the 'Jinx' on HBO. That whole sort of time period, for me really made me wonder why we weren't doing a ComicCon type of thing for this genre. You have world class creators, you have thousands of fans. Let's bring them all together and have an awesome weekend.\"\u003cbr/\u003e              The trio behind the podcast called \"Wine and Crime\" were there to meet with their fans in person. \u003cbr/\u003e              \"85 percent of our listeners are female and we've talked about this a little bit before,\" said Lucy Fitzgerald. \"We think that women are so frequently portrayed as the victims especially in true crime as an entertainment medium, so we're just trying to take a little bit of that power. And F the patriarchy.\"\u003cbr/\u003e              But it's not just amateur sleuths and readers who attended the convention. Some victims of crime were there in the hopes that the fans could help them spread the word about unsolved cases.\u003cbr/\u003e              Mike Patty is the grandfather of Liberty German, who was killed along with her friend Abigail Williams in Delphi, Indiana, in 2017. Their murderer has not yet been caught, but he was at the CrimeCon to speak about the investigation and to reach out to true crime fans for help. \u003cbr/\u003e              \"We're here to spread awareness about our case,\" Patty said. \"It's still an active investigation and we still have a lot of tips. We received over 30,000 of them. But we're still looking for the one tip that's going to get this guy caught. We do as many shows, whatever we can do to help spread awareness about this.\"\u003cbr/\u003e              But the big news of the weekend was the recent arrest of a man believed to be the Golden State Killer, who terrorized women in California in the 1970s and 1980s with rapes and murder. \u003cbr/\u003e              Paul Haynes is a researcher and co-writer of the best seller \"I'll Be Gone in the Dark,\" a book on the killer. \u003cbr/\u003e              \"I think true crime is mainstream now in a way that it's never really been,\" Haynes said. \"Obviously, 'In Cold Blood,' 'Helter Skelter' 'The Executioner's Song' There are great works of literature that are in the true crime genre, but now it's like there's a flood of output from this arena.\"\u003cbr/\u003e              CrimeCon runs 4-6 May.\u003cbr/\u003e            \u003cbr/\u003e\u003cbr/\u003e              Nashville, Tenn. 4 May 2018\u003cbr/\u003e              1.
