We will see how the chromosomes from each cells come together to form our unique genetic code. The gametes (sperm and egg cells) are haploid - so only have half the number of chromosomes. This is 23 in humans. When a sperm fertilises an egg cell, the chromosome number becomes diploid - so the normal number of chromosomes which is 46 in humans (found in 23 pairs).
