The very first thing you say to kick off a presentation is called the opening or “attention grabber.”\u003cbr/\u003e\u003cbr/\u003eThe trouble is, statistics can often go by too quickly to genuinely gain your listeners’ attention and they don’t have the desired impact. \u003cbr/\u003e\u003cbr/\u003eIf you want to start with a fact or statistic, it's best to follow some tips to do it well. \u003cbr/\u003e\u003cbr/\u003e1. Use a startling or interesting statistic. In the course of your presentation preparation, you will likely come across statistics and facts that stand out to you. That's a good clue that an audience might find that fact interesting as well. Set it aside and consider that statistic a good candidate for your attention grabber. \u003cbr/\u003e\u003cbr/\u003e2. Cite the source for your statistic up front. Use the same approach that you would use to cite a quotation.
