How did he manage that?

Well, he had the most simple and effective strategies!

This is part of what you need to score a band 8 or 9 on IELTS Listening.

The strategies we recommend include prediction, which warms your brain up and prepares you for the catching the answers.

For instance, you should listen to the introduction. It tells you what topic you will hear discussed, and you can start predicting vocabulary and ideas that will be used.

Also, though, you need to understand a wide variety of accents and topics.

This channel features many recommendations for resources with a wide variety of accents.

Including podcasts made for native speakers in your daily routine is a must.

A recent 3 Keys student who got a 9 on Listening told us that she would have English podcasts on in the background constantly. Good tip!

To a lesser extent, movies and TV shows also improve your comprehension.

Challenge yourself, though, to move beyond your comfort zone, like just watching Friends, for instance.

I recommend more documentaries!

I just nerded out on a great one called Filmworker on Netflix, about the personal assistant to the legendary director Stanley Kubrick.
