Born in Michigan in 1931, Della Reese began making records and performing on television variety shows in the 1950s. Reese was the first black woman to host her own syndicated talk show in the United States and the first woman to serve as guest host of The Tonight Show.

Della! aired every weekday for an hour throughout the States by RKO. The show featured a wealth of that era’s greatest talents, with guests like Muhammad Ali, Marvin Gaye, Gladys Knight and Linda Ronstadt passing through. In 1987, Reese was nominated for a Grammy Award and later received two Emmy Award nominations for her role in the popular TV drama Touched by An Angel.
