We will use a graphic organizer to practice showing our work following the five steps. Step 1: Determine the SIGN of the product. Write +/- in Step 5 Box. Same Signs - The product of two values with the SAME sign will ALWAYS be POSITIVE. Different Signs - The product of two values with DIFFERENT signs will ALWAYS be NEGATIVE. Step 2: Line up the numbers as if they were whole numbers. Step 3: Multiply the numbers as if they were whole numbers. Step 4: Count the decimal places in EACH of the original numbers. Step 5: In the product, place the decimal point so that the number of decimal places matches the total decimal places in BOTH of the original numbers. DON’T FORGET THE SIGN FROM STEP 1! We will practice four different problems - positive times positive, negative times negative, positive times negative and negative times positive.\n
