Interested...\nJudy Batalion is the author of The Light of Days, a book that began as a personal exploration in 2007 while she was living in London and reflecting on her Jewish identity and the legacy of her Holocaust-survivor grandparents. Interested in writing about strong Jewish women confronting danger, she began researching Hannah Szenes, a Hungarian Jewish poet and paratrooper who fought the Nazis. While searching for information about Szenes at the British Library, Batalion discovered an old Yiddish book titled Freyen in di Ghettos (Women in the Ghettos), filled with stories of young Jewish women and girls who resisted the Nazis from within Polish ghettos—organizing underground schools, smuggling weapons, and carrying out acts of sabotage. Many served as “courier girls,” disguising themselves as Christians to connect ghettos and support the resistance. This discovery profoundly changed Batalion’s focus and led to nearly two decades of research that became The Light of Days, a powerful chronicle of Jewish women’s courage and resistance during the Holocaust.\n
