Transition young mathematicians from learning about shape patterns to number patterns with this hands-on activity. Using plastic, one-inch square tiles and a piece of grid paper, learners extend the given pattern as they begin to explore the meaning of square numbers.
Though the title indicates this is an assessment task, consider using this learning activity to begin a lesson series on number patterns.
If using this activity as a learning center, modify the worksheet to include explicit questions for learners to answer as they explore the shape and number patterns.
- Includes one-inch graph paper template for use with the activity
- Resource is available as an editable Word document
- Language on the worksheet is inconsistent; at times addressing the student and other times the teacher
