A Survivor's Story: How Does it really Feel?

Young scholars analyze both visual and oral interpretations of the impact of Hurricane Floyd in 1999. In this reflective lesson, students gain a first impression by examining photographs of women after the event and listen to an oral history of the event. They are asked to contrast the two versions and write a personal reflection of inward and outward appearances of the aftermath.
