A Toothpick Pattern Rule

In this patterning activity, students identify and complete 2 different problems that include determining the number of toothpicks needed to form a given figure. First, they explain the rule that they use to determine the total number of toothpicks needed in the triangles illustrated. Then, students describe each step they took to determine the rule and solve the problem.
