Adverb Stations

Grammarians focus their attention on adverbs in their reading and writing. A worksheet introduces the concept and guides the class through several exercises. Small groups rotate through four learning centers equipped with practice pages, a written activity, and small group instruction. A final practice page assesses scholars' comprehension.

Instructional Ideas

  • With the class, create an anchor chart that details what an adverb is and offers examples
  • Start a running list of adverbs learners can add to for the duration of grammar instruction
  • Group learners homogeneously for a more focused learning experience, group pupils heterogeneously to allow for peer assistance
Classroom Considerations

  • Requires copies of worksheets
  • A SmartBoard is optional, a projection system that participants can access also does the job
Pros

  • Ways to differentiate and extend the lesson are provided
  • Allows you to choose the criteria for how small groups are created
  • Incorporates an Interactive ELA binder
Cons

  • The plan uses multiple worksheets—to create a more engaging learning environment, change the worksheets to a more hands-on learning approach
