Consult an almanac to find elevations for five locations that are above sea level and five that are places below sea level. Prealgebra practitioners use these elevations to help them understand a real-world application of positive and negative integers. They are asked to find the opposite number for each elevation, as well as the absolute value. Then they determine which location has the greatest absolute value. This is a useful assignment to help address CCSS.Math.Content.7.NS.1.a.
