This Analyze the Impact of Words and Phrases in a Poem to Determine Two Characters' Relationship video also includes:
What’s in a name? Or a word or phrase, for that matter? The syntax and diction of Edna St. Vincent Millay’s “Sonnet VII” offers an opportunity to examine how a particular word or phrase can reveal the relationship between two people. The narrator of a short video creates a cause-and-effect chart on which she records evidence of the interactions between the two characters that reveal their values. Using the chart, the narrator models how to compare these values and consider how the values affect their relationship. Although part of a series of videos that use Millay’s sonnet (included in the resource) as a text, this one can stand alone.
