Central Argument/ Author's Purpose

Why is it so important that writer's have a purpose for writing and the purpose is easily recognizable by the reader? Discuss this idea with your class, and then look at the checklist provided here. There are specific things to look for to help determine the author's purpose. Then, test your class's understanding by reading the short paragraph with them and guessing the author's purpose.
