Here's a game for reinforcing the distinction and the relationship between common and proper nouns. Use it as a sponge or challenge for elementary learners when helping other writers or readers finish a task, as a center activity, or in think-pair-share format. Learners work in groups or as a whole class to list proper noun examples of common nouns that you provide. For a center, you could have common nouns on cards in a bucket, and they could draw one to use. Pre-writers could record their lists by voice on a computer or tablet.
