Comprehending Informational Text: Slanted or Loaded Language

Words carry baggage. Challenge your high schoolers to investigate the connotative as well as the denotative meaning of the words used in a series of sentences and in a letter to the editor of a newspaper. For guided practice, learners then create their own sentences using words that evoke positive or negative reactions.
