Cookie Mining

Seventh graders estimate how many chips are in their cookies. Then, using their toothpicks, 7th graders should attempt to extract the chips from the cookie, trying not to break apart the cookie. Cookies should stay flat on a napkin (explain to them that a mountain cannot be picked up and flipped over). After they have "mined" for a few minutes, ask if they want to change their original estimate. .
