Pupils protect a kitchen wall that stands behind the stove by designing a backsplash. Samuel's parents want a backsplash with specific color ratios for the tiny square tiles that will be included. Learners do the math and glue colored squares of paper onto a graph-lined page to display the arrangement of tiles. An alternative to the cut-and-paste activity would be to fill in squares on graph paper with colored pencils.
