The number line becomes an entire city for young counters, who work in groups to place structures along "Main Street" at specific numbers. If needed, begin by reviewing number line concepts using the PowerPoint provided here. Model the number line town either on the board or even using sidewalk chalk outside, asking questions referencing the map (i.e. "How many spaces do I have to walk to get from the store to the doctor's?") Groups create their own towns and write word problems to challenge other groups. There are frog templates you can cut out to help them visualize the concept of hopping over spaces on the line and counting each number. Only watch the frog video if you have extra time, as it isn't educational.
