How Many Apple Seeds?

Primary graders explore, examine, and hypothesize how many seeds are in a small apple. Then they pry the seeds from their cut apple to count and verify their hypotheses. They listen to a reading of the book Ten Little Apple Seeds by Barbara Pratt and sing the words to the tune of "Ten Little Indian Boys." Each child also decorates an apple-shaped sugar cookie with raisins to represent the number of seeds they found in the real fruit.
