Students listen to the story I Was Walking Down The Road in order to become familiar with rhyme and cadence; two important factors in sentence fluency. In this language arts instructional activity, students focus on the rhythm of the rhyming sentences, tapping the beat and identifying words with one and two syllables. The class then creates their own classroom book using the same predictable, seven beat sentences, but inserting original rhymes.
