Interpreting the Story: Focus on Style

The mock secret agent style of Mark Wenham’s short story “The Great Egg-Heist” is sure to engage your sophomores. After reading the story, class members note the spy story conventions and language Wenham uses and discuss how these elements add suspense and humor to the story. They then transform one of their own childhood experiences by adopting a particular writing style. Pre- and post-reading activities, a vocabulary list, and extensions are included with the lesson plan. Access the story on the Internet.
