To answer this question, researchers review what they know about George Whitefield, Lyman Beecher, Charles Finney, Jonathan Edwards, and the Great Awakenings. Then they read William Henry Singleton’s Recollections of My Slavery Days and A.W. Wayman’s My Recollections of African M. E. Ministers. Using a primary document question sheet to focus their reading, class members read and discuss these two primary source documents before crafting their own sermon on the question.
