The Common Core Standards for grades 11 and 12 specify that learners need to be able to “introduce precise, knowledgeable claims(s).” How to formulate such claims is modeled in a short video that uses “Of Our Spiritual Strivings,” the first chapter of W.E.B. Du Bois’s The Souls of Black Folk, as the text. The video, part two of seven, is confusing at times and would work best if shown in conjunction with the other videos in the series.
