Island Inequality Mat

A playful, clever activity to teach the concepts and symbols for greater than and less than. Learners make balls of fish food from play-dough (great for fine motor development) and place them on "islands" on a mat according to number cards they draw from a pile. Two cutout fish with mouths open in opposite directions represent the greater than and less than symbols. Pupils choose the fish facing the island with more fish food. A clam graphic represents the equals sign. Reproducibles attached.
