Just Passing Through

Middle schoolers use square grid paper to establish a pattern in this activity about rectangular arrays. By completing a chart with rectangular dimensions provided, students can solve for the greatest common divisor of the length and width. Middle schoolers then count the number of squares a diagonal line passes through. They generate a rule and use it to compute the greatest common divisor of three large rectangles.
