Beginning a narrative can be scary--or funny, or sad, or filled with fantasy. After being guided through the reading of a variety of first sentences, pupils come up with examples of each type. The young writers then try their hand at crafting different types of beginnings for their narrative. Although the referenced Back to the Beginning worksheet is not included, the concepts in the scripted lesson plan could be used with any narrative writing project.
