What makes a novel? Budding authors find inspiration in books they have read, discussing features of fiction and nonfiction. They come up with a list of novels they know of, have read, or have seen as movies. Using a worksheet (not included, but easily found online), learners unpack a novel they choose through short-answer questions. The end of the worksheet has writers create an ad to hook readers into picking up their book. After presenting their brief review, scholars go home and look for more novels as homework.
