Lesson plan 3 Using Superman to Analyze Relationships Among American Literature, History, and Culture
Young scholars compare the role of popular culture as it relates to 1939 and 2003. As a class, they brainstorm aspects unique to each year. Students read sections form reprints of classic Superman comic stories and a modern retelling of Superman's origins published in 2003. As a whole, they reflect upon aspects of the story that remain timeless. Young scholars discuss why some things changed while others stayed the same. They explore reasons that Superman has endured for over six decades.
