Women in the Workforce: Young Women Mill Workers and Economic Power

Middle schoolers use primary and secondary source documents to explore about the young women and the economic choices they made and the changes that resulted. They investigate how the decision to leave the farm and work in the mill impacted nineteenth century families. Students complete activities that help them to make comparisons between economic decisions made by young women in the early nineteenth century and those in the twenty-first century.
