Let Your Motto Be Resistance: African American Portraits

Young scholars compare and contrast historic and contemporary photographs of African American figures. In this history instructional activity, students study six photographs of different African American historical figures and sort them according to when they were taken; "then" or "now." Young scholars are then asked in depth observational questions about the attire and mood of the people in the photographs.
